Pepsi Tournament Rules
- This tournament is certified by the United States Bowling Congress (#4022) and shall be governed by USBC rules.
- Competition is open to all 2009-2010 USBC Youth members. To compete, a bowler must be a regular member of a certified USBC league and not be under suspension at the time of qualifying. League substitutes are allowed to participate if it is their only USBC Youth league. USBC Collegiate members are eligible if they are 2009-2010 USBC Youth members, bowl in a USBC Youth league and have not violated USBC Rule 400.
- All USBC Youth members in good standing are eligible for the league level competition. There is no entry fee at the league level. Bowling centers having 2009-2010 certified leagues are automatic league level qualifying sites.
- League level qualifying dates are the weeks of October 18 and November 14, 2009, February 14th and 28th, 2010. Qualifying scores must be bowled during regularly scheduled league matches on the above dates. Advancement from league is a one-time entry. If an individual qualified and cannot participate in this competition, replacements will be eligible based on order of finish in previous competition.

***Pre-bowled or post-bowled scores may not be used as scores for advancement purposes*** - Advancement ratio from the league level competition to the state competition is at least one (1) for every four (4) entries per division, per league, or major fraction thereof, including last place ties. The base number for each division is the number of the league members that would have participated in that division. The advancement ratio shall be applied.
- In the event a bowler qualifies from more than on league in the same division, the bowler must advance from the league in which the highest series was bowled. For identical qualifying scores, the member will advance from the league where the first score was bowled.
- If a bowler qualifies in different leagues from both the scratch and handicap divisions, the bowler must select one division they will compete in before subsequent competition.
- If the bowler advances out of league level in more than one state/zone, the bowler must declare one state/zone to continue in before the next competition level.
- Participation in any level of competition past the league level in more than one state/zone and or more than one division will result in automatic disqualification.
*** Advancers remain in the division they qualified in during the league level in all subsequent competition. If there is a tie for the last place qualifier in a division, both will advance to the next level of competition***
- Advancers out of the league level must remain in the division they qualified in during all subsequent levels. If a bowler advances out of league level in more than one state/zone, the bowler must declare one state/zone to continue competing before the next competition level. Participation in any level of competition past the league level in more than one state/zone will result in automatic disqualification.

- Entry closing date is April 3, 2010. Tournament entry forms containing qualifiers? name, address, telephone number, date of birth and social security number must be submitted by this date to the tournament manager. - 11 and under Girls? Handicap
- 11 and under Boys? Handicap
- 12 and above Girls? Handicap
- 12 and above Boys? Handicap
- 12 and above Girls? Scratch
- 12 and above Boys? Scratch
- Athletes are not required to be USBC Junior Gold members to enter the Scratch Division. However, athletes must be USBC Junior Gold members or be eligible and buy membership prior to advancement to the USBC Junior Gold Championships in Indianapolis, IN.
- The tournament format shall be: Winner shall be decided by TOTAL PINFALL with Handicap where applicable.
- Ages 11 and under: Shall bowl 3 games on the same pair of lanes. Awards given after ALL scores are tallied and checked for ties.
- Ages 12 and above scratch: Shall bowl 6 games. Awards will be given out after ALL scores are tallied and checked for ties.

* USBC Rule 309 states that all scholarships must be deposited in the SMART Program or comply with strict guidelines for maintenance. - All bowlers must wear suitable attire. No hats/caps allowed. Bowlers must wear a collared shirt or USBC Jersey. Bowlers MAY NOT WEAR shirts that fail to cover the midriff, pants with holes in them, sweat pants, short-shorts, skin tight or spandex clothing. Girls? shorts must be mid-thigh length. Bowlers deemed in violation will not be allowed to compete until corrected. Final determination will rest with the tournament manager. There will be no alcoholic beverages on the concourse while competition is in progress.
- No substitutes will be permitted once athletes have started tournament play; however replacements may be used for bowlers not present 15 minutes prior to squad time as stated in Rule #2. Replacements must be from order of finish from prior level of competition. (I.e. the same window, same league and same center as the ?no show? bowler if replacement is from the league level. They must follow the order of advancement within that window/league.) Once replaced the original bowler cannot regain his spot in the tournament.
- Competitors will be allowed 2 practice balls on each of their starting lanes.
- If no replacement has been made, bowlers arriving late shall begin play and the score shall count beginning with the frame then being bowled. Missed frames shall be credited with a zero. Frames may not be made-up. Bowlers not present to bowl when it’s their turn will be credited with a zero for that frame.
- Qualifying Averages
- League ? bowlers will use their current league average as of the first date of competition (no minimum number of games.
- State ? bowlers shall use their highest current certified league average, minimum of twenty-one (21) games as of April 1, 2010. Those not meeting the minimum number of games shall bowl scratch. A standing sheet must verify averages. If a bowler competed in more than one league or house, they must provide average verification from each.
***Bowlers in the 12 and above age division who have an entering average of 211 or higher MUST compete in the scratch division***
- Handicap shall be 100% of the difference between the bowlers’ average and 210.
- Only bowlers and tournament officials shall be permitted in the settee area.
- Ties will be broken by a one game roll-off. Should a tie still exist, it will be broken by an additional ninth and 10th frame roll-off, plus one/tenth of handicap per frame where applicable. (Refer to rule 326a).
- Claims for errors in scoring or general playing rules must be made to the tournament manager no later than the start of the next block or 30 minutes after the completion of competition. The tournament manager shall decide upon questionable errors. All other protests must be confirmed in writing to the tournament manager within 72 hours or before the awards are presented. Under this rule, each protest must be specific in itself.
- Symbolic awards will not be given. All awards will be issued as scholarship based on minimum of a 1 in 10 formula, additional scholarships will be issued based on total number of entries. (see Rule #19 for minimum scholarship amounts to be issued)
- Scholarships will be awarded as follows:
- At least $50 value to each of the ?11 & Under? division winners
- At least $50 value to each of the ?12 & Above? division winners.
- The total number of entries will determine actual dollar amount.
- The top bowler in the 12 and above Boys? and Girls? Scratch Divisions at the state competition with the highest scratch score, plus applicable bonus pins, will earn a berth to the USBC Junior Gold Championships July 10-16, 2010 in Indianapolis, Indiana. There is no requirement to have a minimum average or be a USBC Junior Gold Member to enter the Scratch division at the local level of qualifying for the Pepsi USBC Youth Bowling Championships. However, to receive the berth, the bowler must be a USBC Junior Gold member, or be eligible for membership (males must have an average of 175 or higher and females a 150 or higher) and obtain membership prior to the championships.
***If the winner is not eligible for the championships, he/she will still retain all scholarships from the state, but the next eligible bowler will receive the berth to the USBC Junior Gold Championships.***
** The boy and girl winner will also receive up to $1000.00 in expense reimbursement for travel, lodging and meals during the USBC Junior Gold Championship. Receipts must be produced for reimbursement. - Advancers to the USBC Junior Gold Championships must agree to bowl in the USBC Junior Gold
- Championships, or, failing to do so, agree to waive all rights. Replacements will be selected based on the order of finish in their division at the state level.
- Failure to abide by any rules and regulations will lead to disqualification from this event. The Pepsi USBC Youth Championships National Tournament Committee reserves the right to accept or reject any participant.
- The Pepsi USBC Youth Championships National Tournament Committee will decide all matters not covered by these rules and regulations or USBC rules and regulations. All decisions are final.
